Ironclad Concealment Vest
From the outside, the Ironclad V-series concealment vest looks like a fitted athletic zip-up — a little thicker than a compression shirt, available in black, gray, and a dark olive. The V-series uses a layered construction: an outer shell of abrasion-resistant synthetic, a middle layer of flexible trauma-dispersion paneling (a ceramic-fiber composite that distributes impact without rigid plates), and an inner moisture-wicking layer. It stops low-velocity rounds and disperses blunt trauma. It does not stop high-caliber rifle rounds. The manufacturer is very clear about this in documentation that no one reads.

It's sold through licensed security equipment distributors and, less officially, through several Tier 2 and 3 sporting goods stores that don't ask too many questions. Tier 4 private security staff wear them under dress shirts. Tier 2 neighborhood watch organizers in contested blocks wear them openly. A few Tier 3 journalists who cover the Shelf wear them and don't tell their editors. The vest fits over basic arm augments but requires a custom order for heavy shoulder chrome.

  • abrasion-resistant synthetic outer shell
  • ceramic-fiber composite trauma-dispersion middle layer
  • moisture-wicking inner liner
functionalityFlexible ballistic protection: rated for low-velocity rounds and blunt impact dispersal. Not rated for high-caliber rifle rounds. No electronics.
what it saysYou expect trouble, or you live somewhere trouble happens without warning, or your work puts you in front of people who don't want you to come back. The vest is a statement about risk assessment.

  • neighborhood watch members in contested zones
  • journalists covering dangerous areas

story hooks
  • A batch of Ironclad vests with subtly compromised trauma panels — they look correct but will fail — has entered the Tier 2 market; someone sold defective protection to people who need it most.
  • A journalist was wearing an Ironclad vest when she was shot; the round that hit her was specifically designed to defeat the V-series rating, which suggests her attacker knew exactly what she was wearing.
  • The custom aug-compatible order list for the V-series is a document that reveals who in the city is expecting violence and has the money to prepare for it.

physical description
visual profileA fitted, athletic-cut zip-up vest that reads as casual sportswear at first glance. The silhouette is sleek and modern, hugging the torso with subtle structural definition. When examined closer, the material has a distinctive density and weight that betrays its protective purpose. Worn by security contractors, cautious journalists, and neighborhood watch organizers across contested zones.
fitSlim to fitted through the chest and torso, with enough stretch to accommodate light augmentation at the shoulders and arms. The cut allows for layering over base clothing without bulk. Arm holes are generous enough for standard subcutaneous mods but require custom tailoring for heavy chrome.
primary materialOuter shell of high-abrasion-resistant synthetic polymer; middle layer of flexible ceramic-fiber composite trauma paneling; inner lining of moisture-wicking bio-mesh.
textureSmooth, dense outer surface with a subtle sheen. The material is noticeably thicker than casual athletic wear. Middle paneling has a faint quilted texture from the trauma-dispersion grid. Inner lining is soft and friction-minimal against skin.
color schemeAvailable in stark black, industrial gray, and tactical dark olive. Minimal branding—small embossed Ironclad logo on left chest. No reflective elements or high-visibility markings.
closuresFull-length YKK industrial-grade zipper with reinforced pull tab. Two hidden magnetic snap closures at the sides for emergency quick-release.
distinctive features
  • Layered trauma-dispersion paneling rated for low-velocity rounds and blunt impact
  • Reinforced stress panels along the sides and lower ribs
  • Hidden interior zippered pocket suitable for small devices or documentation
  • Graduated stitching pattern that reinforces impact zones without creating visible seams
  • Custom sizing available for integrated arm augmentation
  • Moisture-wicking inner layer prevents sweat accumulation during extended wear
tier indicatorTier 2-3 functional. Expensive enough to signal intent and resources (Φ800-1200), but accessible through non-corpo channels. Not luxury; purely utilitarian.
cultural contextWorn by private security operatives, cautious journalists covering Shelf-adjacent zones, neighborhood watch organizers in contested blocks, and Tier 3 individuals who move through dangerous spaces professionally. Signals preparedness without aggression—a calculated risk assessment made visible.
condition typicalUsually pristine or barely broken-in. Wear patterns minimal because users rotate them to preserve integrity. Occasional scuff marks on the shoulder or side from augmentation contact. Well-maintained, as replacement cost is significant for the tier that wears them.

Bare augmented arm visible at one shoulder, subtle chrome joints catching the light. Gritty industrial backdrop with rain-slicked concrete and distant GLMZ skyline.
