Rennick Leatherworks Café Racer
Rennick Leatherworks is a one-person operation — or close to it — running out of a workshop in the mid-Tier 2 district, making motorcycle and riding jackets from genuine and synthetic leather in the old tradition. The Café Racer is a fitted, hip-length moto jacket with a snap-off collar, asymmetric zip front, and two hand-slash pockets. The leather is full-grain bovine hide treated with a proprietary wax blend that makes it water-resistant and gives it a deep, dark sheen. The lining is quilted satin-analog in burgundy or black.

This is not a fashion leather jacket. It has reinforced shoulder and elbow panels for abrasion resistance and a CE-rated armor insert system in the shoulders and elbows (back armor sold separately). It is made to be ridden in and it shows — the cut is slightly forward-leaning, the collar high enough to protect the neck. People who actually ride motorcycles in GLMZ's traffic corridors wear it. People who do not ride also wear it, which Rennick finds mildly annoying.

story hooks
  • Rennick Leatherworks keeps a record of every jacket made with a discreet serial number — a jacket found at a crime scene could be traced back to its original buyer
  • A Rennick jacket in near-perfect condition shows up in a pawn terminal; the previous owner was a courier who ran packages for someone very dangerous and then stopped running anything
  • The CE armor inserts in a specific jacket have been swapped for something non-standard — lighter, thinner, and rated for something other than abrasion

physical description
visual profileA lean, aggressive silhouette that reads immediately as functional rather than fashionable. The jacket cuts at the hip with a slight forward-lean bias, shoulders squared and reinforced. The asymmetric zip creates visual tension across the chest. High, protective collar suggests someone who actually needs to shield their neck. Worn by riders and poseurs alike in the mid-tier districts.
fitFitted through the torso with room for movement and armor inserts. Sleeves taper slightly. The forward-leaning cut means it rides differently depending on posture—perfect when hunched over a bike, slightly shorter in front when standing upright. Not baggy, not tailored; engineered.
primary materialFull-grain bovine hide, treated with Rennick's proprietary wax blend. Genuine leather—not synth-weave or ballistic composite. The wax gives it water resistance and a deep, almost liquid sheen that darkens with age and scuffing.
textureSmooth but not slick. The wax treatment creates a subtle tacky grip. Close inspection reveals the hide's natural grain patterns. Reinforced panels at shoulders and elbows feel slightly stiffer, with visible topstitching. The quilted satin lining (burgundy or black) contrasts the worn exterior.
color schemeDeep black or dark brown leather, aged to near-black by the wax treatment. Burgundy or black quilted lining visible at cuffs and interior. Minimal branding. Zipper hardware catches light; matte or brushed steel preferred by Rennick.
closuresAsymmetric front zip (off-center, slightly aggressive angle). Snap-off collar secured with heavy-duty snaps. No belt loops or cinches; the jacket relies on fit and the rider's body position.
distinctive features
  • Snap-off high collar for neck protection without restricting movement
  • Reinforced shoulder and elbow panels rated for abrasion resistance
  • CE-rated armor insert pockets (compatible with modular protection)
  • Asymmetric front zip creating visual and functional asymmetry
  • Two hand-slash pockets angled for rider access
  • Visible topstitching on reinforced zones—honest construction
  • Quilted lining visible at wrists and collar
  • Proprietary wax finish deepens with wear; scuffs and scratches become part of the patina
  • No corporate branding—only a small Rennick leather stamp inside
tier indicatorTier 2 luxury—handmade, functional, expensive without being showy. A personal investment from someone who values craftsmanship. Not corporate, not street salvage.
cultural contextWorn by actual motorcycle riders navigating GLMZ traffic corridors, couriers, and the poseurs who want to signal 'I am serious about my transportation and my taste.' It announces: 'I know what I need, and I paid for quality.' The fact that non-riders wear it annoys Rennick but drives demand.
condition typicalArrives pristine but is meant to age. After six months of use, the wax develops a lived-in patina. Scuffs from armor inserts, creasing at the elbows, darkening at collar and cuffs from sweat and road grime. By year two, it looks like it's actually protected someone. That's the point.

Moody tungsten lighting rakes across the jacket's waxed leather, highlighting the asymmetric zip and reinforced shoulder panel. The high collar casts shadows. Dark industrial backdrop—brick, steel shelving, faint motorcycle silhouette. Quilted burgundy lining visible at wrist and collar. Model's posture slightly forward-leaning, hands in pockets. Worn patina visible on the leather. Neo-noir urban aesthetic—functional, lived-in, not trendy. --ar 2:3 --v 6
