Null Signal // Meridian Tour Tee
Null Signal is a post-industrial noise group out of the Shelf's lower levels — three musicians, two of whom have significant audio-augmentation chrome, who play shows in decommissioned pump stations and condemned transit hubs. This shirt was sold at their 2199 'Meridian Loop' tour, which consisted of seven illegal shows across five Tier 1 and 2 venues. The design is stark: a black shirt with a white interference-pattern graphic that looks like a corrupted audio waveform across the chest. On the back, the seven venue names, three of which are listed only by grid coordinate because they have no official name.

The shirt itself is basic synth-cotton — thin, slightly rough, fades fast. That's part of it. The fading is correct. A Null Signal tee that looks new is suspicious; a Null Signal tee that's been through sixty washes and has a small hole at the collar is the real artifact. Bootlegs exist, but the bootlegs fade differently.

story hooks
  • One of the Null Signal members disappeared after the tour's final show; his friends keep wearing the shirt as a kind of vigil and nobody will say what they think happened.
  • The interference pattern on the shirt, when photographed with a specific optical aug filter, resolves into a short text string — coordinates, or a message, or something else entirely.
  • A Tier 4 talent acquisition agent has been attending underground shows specifically to find and sign artists like Null Signal — the shirt is how she identifies who to approach.

physical description
visual profileDeliberately anti-fashion statement piece—a deliberately worn, faded black tee with a white corrupted waveform graphic sprawling across the chest. The back lists seven venue names in a stark, utilitarian layout, three reduced to cryptic grid coordinates. Worn-in authenticity is the aesthetic: creasing, slight discoloration, subtle holes. The shirt reads as 'lived-in artifact' rather than merchandise.
fitRelaxed, slightly boxy fit—not oversized but generous through the torso. Unstructured neckline, standard straight sleeves. Cut for movement and comfort, not silhouette.
primary materialSynth-cotton blend—thin, slightly rough weave with low thread count by design
textureRough to touch, soft-worn from repeated washing. Fabric has intentional brittleness; genuine shirts show predictable fade patterns and micro-tears at stress points (collar, cuffs, hem). Bootlegs fade uniformly and feel cheaper.
color schemeFaded black base (charcoal where it's worn thin) with white interference-pattern graphic. The white graphic degrades unevenly with washing, creating a ghosted, semi-transparent effect on authentic pieces.
closuresNone—basic crew neck, no fasteners
distinctive features
  • White corrupted audio waveform graphic across chest—intentionally digital-glitch aesthetic
  • Back print: seven venue names, three listed only as grid coordinates (e.g., '◊ 42.67°N / 83.14°W')
  • Intentionally thin, poor-quality synth-cotton that degrades predictably
  • Genuine articles show specific fade patterns and small holes at collar from authentic wear
  • No official branding—pure Null Signal collective identity
  • Bootlegs detectable by uniform fading and different fabric degradation patterns
tier indicatorTier 3–4 cultural marker. Affordable DIY merch, but worn as a badge of underground access. A pristine Null Signal tee signals either bootleg or untrustworthy collector; worn authenticity is currency.
cultural contextPost-industrial music subculture. Wearer is connected to the Shelf's lower-level noise scene, audio-augmentation communities, and illegal venue networks. The shirt says: 'I was there. I know people. I exist in spaces that don't have names.' Tier 1–2 corpo kids sometimes wear bootlegs ironically; street musicians and augmented audio techs wear genuine ones.
condition typicalBroken-in and faded—multiple wash cycles visible. Likely to have a small hole at the collar or underarm. The graphic is semi-transparent in places. Color is uneven, darker at seams and folds. A Null Signal tee in pristine condition is inherently suspect.
image promptWorn black synth-cotton tee on pale androgynous model with audio-augmentation chrome visible at temples and jawline, posed against a decommissioned transit hub wall covered in peeling paint and graffiti coordinates. The white corrupted waveform graphic is faded and slightly cracked. Back view shows venue names including grid coordinates in stark white print. Moody blue-grey industrial lighting, shallow depth of field, grain and scan lines overlay. Model's collar shows small wear hole. Neo-noir underground aesthetic, documentary-style fashion photography. --ar 2:3 --v 6
