A fine-gauge merino wool crewneck in a natural oatmeal color — undyed, or more precisely dyed to match undyed, which is its own kind of luxury. The knit is a tight 12-gauge that lies smooth against the body without clinging, holds its shape after washing, and pills only slightly at the cuffs after months of heavy use. The ribbing at the collar, cuffs, and hem is slightly contrasting — a fraction darker in tone, barely visible. No logo anywhere on the exterior. A woven label inside the left hem reads H&C / MERIDIAN 88 / NATURAL SERIES.

Halverson & Crane is a small-batch label that produces maybe two thousand units per season out of a Tier 3 workshop. The merino is sourced from a cooperative in what used to be Patagonia — geneware-assisted sheep that produce a finer fiber than anything available two centuries ago.
