This tank top is the product of necessity and improvisation: panels of mismatched synth-fabric stitched together with visible seams in contrasting thread, the raw edges deliberately left open or bound in a different material entirely. Each one is unique. The one in hand might have a faded green mesh back, a yellow-white ribbed front, and shoulder straps cut from a repurposed safety harness. The stitching is uneven but functional. Shelf vendors sell them by the dozen from folded stacks under tarps.

On the Shelf, this is just a shirt. In Tier 3 clubs and underground art spaces, it's been reclaimed as aesthetic — people pay more for the 'authentic' ones than for the mass-produced knockoffs that imitate the look without the history. Real Shelf residents find that deeply irritating.
