The hem has been re-cut and rehemmed four times as it frayed, each cut visible as a lighter band across the lower third. Patch repairs across the back and shoulders are applied in a deliberate overlapping scale pattern, using scraps of brown leather, black rubber sheeting, and gray synthetic canvas — not haphazard but arranged, almost decorative. Beneath the coat is a high-neck tunic in faded rust linen — a style that borrows from Chinese changshan proportions but cut shorter, the mandarin collar reinforced with salvaged leather trim. Trousers are heavy dark wool, wide-legged and cuffed, worn over thick knit gaiters that tuck into wide-toe boots resoled so many times the sole is now thicker than the original. The boots are wrapped at the ankle in strips of black rubber tape for waterproofing. On the hands, fingerless gloves in cracked brown leather — the fingers cut away cleanly, the edges sealed with black rubber cement.
