Everything about this outfit is built around moving through the Shelf after dark without being seen, heard, or remembered. The foundation is a skin-close base layer in dark navy, barely distinguishable from black, in a moisture-wicking weave that's been hand-dyed unevenly — the dye job is amateur but effective, breaking up any reflective sheen. Over that: a long-sleeved pullover in matte dark gray, the neck cut low and wide enough to pull up over the nose, the cuffs long enough to cover the wrists entirely. The outer layer is a deconstructed hooded jacket, its original shape somewhere between a coach's shell and a rain anorak, now cut down, re-seamed, and fitted with a series of interior pockets accessible through hidden slits — one at the chest, two at the lower hem, one inside each sleeve near the wrist. The hood is deep and can be cinched to a narrow oval around the face. The whole jacket is treated with a matte-finish waterproofing compound that kills any surface sheen. Trousers are slim-fit in heavy black cotton twill, the inner ankle seams reinforced with self-repair tape to prevent snagging. Boots are soft-soled, mid-ankle, in worn synthetic suede that's been re-dyed black — near-silent on most Shelf flooring, with a thin but grippy rubber sole. Thin knit gloves in charcoal complete the set. There is nothing reflective anywhere on this outfit. No hardware, no exposed metal, no pale thread.
