Adisa Handwoven Pullover
Made by Adisa Okonkwo-Brennan, a single artisan working out of a fourth-floor studio in the Tier 3 Havenwood district, these pullovers are woven on a traditional floor loom using a blend of West African kente strip-weaving technique and Nordic colorwork structure. Each pullover is assembled from strips of hand-woven fabric joined in a way that makes the seams a design element rather than a flaw. The color combinations are Adisa's own — warm golds and deep indigos alongside unexpected interventions of forest green or rust. No two are identical. The fabric is a wool-linen blend that has a pleasant roughness when new and breaks in to something close to linen-soft over time.

Adisa sells through a small waiting list and occasionally through a Tier 3 design collective market. Prices are firm and non-negotiable. The pullovers have found their way onto people across tiers — Tier 2 buyers who saved for months, Tier 4 buyers who appreciate the provenance, and one documented Tier 5 Spire resident who keeps it as their 'real clothes' for private evenings. Adisa doesn't care who buys them as long as the list stays moving.

story hooks
  • Adisa has been approached by a Tier 4 corponation wanting to license the weaving pattern for a mass-production run — the offer is large enough to change their life, and the refusal has made some corporate representatives persistent in ways that are starting to feel like pressure.
  • One of Adisa's pullovers was worn by a person who disappeared — and a character is trying to trace the owner's last movements through the waiting list records.
  • The wool-linen blend Adisa sources comes from a supplier with an unusual background, and a character investigating something unrelated stumbles across the supply chain.
physical description
visual profileA substantial, heritage-craft pullover with visible strip-woven construction. The garment reads as intentionally artisanal—seams are bold graphic elements running vertically down the chest and sides, creating an almost architectural silhouette. Worn with quiet confidence by people who understand handmade value across economic tiers.
fitRelaxed through the body with a dropped shoulder line. Not oversized, but comfortable and unstructured—designed for layering or wearing alone. Sits naturally at the hip with a straight hem.
primary materialWool-linen blend, hand-woven on traditional floor loom in narrow strips
textureDeliberately rough and nuanced when new with visible weave variation; softens to linen-like suppleness with wear. Strips have subtle thickness variation from hand-weaving; seams where strips meet create raised, tactile ridges
color schemeWarm ochre golds and deep indigo dominate; unexpected accent interventions of forest green or rust oxide create movement. Each piece unique colorway. High contrast between strip colors emphasizes construction.
closuresPullover neck—no closures. Simple crew neck or subtle raised neckline without binding
distinctive features
  • Visible seamed strip construction—seams are design statement, not hidden
  • West African kente-inspired strip widths combined with Nordic colorwork geometry
  • Hand-woven inconsistencies and color variations as features, not flaws
  • Each pullover completely one-of-a-kind colorway
  • Visible loom shuttle marks and natural fiber slubs in weave pattern
  • Breaks in over time, develops patina and softness through wear
tier indicatorTier 3 artisanal luxury with aspirational Tier 2 collector value and unexpected Tier 5 private-wear appeal. Price-point signals serious craft investment across economic boundaries.
cultural contextWorn by people who value provenance, cultural heritage-blending, and direct artist relationship. Signals either patient saving (Tier 2), design-educated taste (Tier 4), or private authenticity (Tier 5). Signals rejection of mass production and corpo fashion cycles.
condition typicalPristine to broken-in depending on owner. New pieces show crisp seam definition and slight textile stiffness. Well-worn pieces soften dramatically, develop subtle fading in high-friction areas, may show hand-repair stitching—all desirable to buyers.
